A. Transition
Signals with Reasons
Ketika
kita menuliskan beberapa alasan (reasons)
dalam sebuah paragraf atau sebuah teks,
kita harus memulai menuliskan alasan tersebut dengan memakai transition signal. Gunakanlah transition signals secara berurutan,
contohnya ibarat firstly, first of all,
secondm third, at last, finally, dan sebagainya.

Contoh kalimat:
- First of all, Costa
Rica has many national parks with their excellent systems.
(Pertama – tama, Costa Rica mempunyai banyak taman nasional dengan sistemnya
yang sangat baik)
- Second, Costa Rica
has many beautiful beaches.
(Kedua, Costa Rica mempunyai banyak pantai yang indah)
Kita
juga sanggup meletakkan kata transisi (transition
word) di dalam subjek dan tidak harus memakai tanda koma (,).

Terdapat
dua cara untuk melengkapi referensi kalimat dalam Pattern 2 di atas, yaitu sebagai

- The second reason is there
are many beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.
(Alasan kedua ialah terdapat banyak pantai yang indah di
Costa Rica)
2. With a sentence connected by that (Dengan kalimat yang dihubungkan dengan kata that):
- The first reason is that Costa Rica has many national parks with their excellent systems.
(Alasan pertama ialah bahwa Costa Rica mempunyai banyak
taman nasional dengan sistemnya yang sangat baik)
- The second reason is
that Costa Rica has many beautiful beaches.
(Alasan kedua ialah bahwa Costa Rica mempunyai banyak
pantai yang indah)
Note:
Ingatlah bahwa tanda koma (,) tidak perlu ditulis dikala transition signal berada dalam subjek kalimat.

B. Conclusion Signals with Reasons
Sebuah
kalimat kesimpulan (conclusion sentence)
dapat dimulai dengan memakai conclusion
signal, misalnya ibarat indeed, to
sum up, atau for these two, three,
four, dan seterusnya dilanjutkan dengan sebuah kalimat.
Contoh:
For these _______ reasons, _________________________________

Contoh kalimat:
For these two reasons, Costa Rica is a wonderful place to
go if you love the outdoors.
(Untuk
dua alasan ini, Costa Rica ialah daerah yang sangat anggun untuk dikunjungi
jika kau menyukai acara luar ruangan)
Cara
lain yang sanggup dipakai untuk menuliskan sebuah kalimat kesimpulan (concluding sentence) yang dimulai dengan
kata because of, dan diikuti oleh
satu atau lebih frasa kata benda (noun
phrase).
Contoh:
Because
of ______________, _______________, ________________ .
Contoh kalimat:
Because of its national parks and beautiful beaches,
Costa Rica is a wonderful place to go if you love the outdoors.
(Karena
taman nasionalnya dan pantainya yang indah, Costa Rica ialah daerah yang
sangat anggun untuk dikunjungi jikalau kau menyukai acara luar ruangan)
C. Contoh Soal perihal Transition and Conclusion Signals
Here
are five reasons that Costa Rica is a good place to visit. Rewrite each reason
twice to add transition signals.
- On the first line
(a), rewrite the sentence and use transition sinal as in the example below. Be
sure to use a comma (.). - On the second line
(b), rewrite the sentence and include the trabsition signal in the subject as
in the example below. Don’t use a comma (,).
